About Our Name
The Roosevelt is a beautiful and increasingly rare species of elk that once ranged upwards from San Francisco throughout the Pacific Northwest. The species was discovered in 1897 and named after Theodore Roosevelt, who was at the time assistant secretary of the navy and four years away from the presidency. A majestic mount of a Roosevelt Elk, circa 1948, hangs above our bar. Small populations still survive today in Oregon and Washington, while a larger herd is making a final stand in Alaska. Many of us, who also once ranged far and wide throughout the Pacific Northwest, are making our final stand here in Ketchum!
